Perth’s largest International Women’s Day (IWD) event is more than a celebration, it’s a platform for empowerment and action. Now in its eighth year, the event has grown from a small networking gathering into a movement supporting women beyond just one day.

Founded by Ashley Matkovic of Fusion Biz Co. and Brooke Vulinovich of Social Club, the March 5 event at Crown Towers brought together more than 400 women to connect, share insights, and create opportunities for growth.
“We wanted to create something real and uplifting, where women could share not just the wins, but the honest realities of business,” said co-founder Brooke Vulinovich.
“Seeing how much it’s grown shows the power of women supporting women.”
“We ARE the change”
This sentiment was echoed by Ashley Matkovic who emphasised how shifts in mindset drive change.
“When we stop doubting ourselves, use our voices even when they shake, and uplift the women beside us. When we commit to inner change, we create an unstoppable ripple effect.”
The event’s impact was clear from the start, with major sponsor Barbagallo setting the tone through a luxury car showcase and an opening speech from Natasha Di Ciano, reinforcing themes of empowerment and success.
A highlight was the panel discussion featuring Bec Miller, Michelle Rule, and Ezereve, who shared insights navigating success and challenges as women in the workplace.
Standing ovations
But the most powerful moment came when award-winning screenwriter and director Jessica Bailey took the stage.
“Your true voice is your weapon,” she said.
“Smash race, smash gender, whatever the barrier, your voice will lead you to your truth.”
Her speech deeply resonated with attendees who gave a standing ovation.
“[Jessica Bailey’s] message was incredible. I’ve still got goosebumps,” said Sami Radford of Dapth Consultancy.
Lala MacNab of Lala for Business has been part of the event since attending the first gathering at Fraser’s in Kings Park.
She said the event is about more than just inspiration.
“This event reminds us we’re not alone. It brings women together, inspires us, and creates meaningful connections.”
With its growing influence, Perth’s IWD event continues to drive conversations that turn inspiration into action, ensuring women in business are supported, empowered and heard, not just on IWD, but every day.
